Post-Doctoral Fellowships for Environmental Health Study

A postdoctoral position on environmental health studies is available now. Atmospheric pollutants are believed to be associated with many adverse health outcomes. ROS, i.e., reactive oxygen species, is considered as the bridge between pollutants and health outcomes because most pollutant exposures will firstly generate ROS in human bodies, then lead to oxidant stress that cause damages to health. This opinion brings to several new researches such measurement of ROS in ambient aerosol, in human bodies, as well as explorations between the ROS concentrations and key pollutants (e.g., secondary aerosols, ozone). The postdoctoral fellow will conduct laboratory observations of aerosol bound ROS to investigate the effects of other particulate pollutants and environment facts on ROS generations. We will also collaborate with atmospheric modelers to evaluate the significance of relations between ROS and major atmospheric toxic compounds. Background in chemistry, physics or engineering is required. Experiences with mass spectrometers and particle instruments are highly desired. Effective communication and instrument trouble shooting skills are essential. The primary duties include summarizing the scientific findings in national and international conferences and publishing in scientific journals. Initial appoint is one year and may be extended up to 3 years, depending on the performance and the funding availability.
